Katoomba is the beating heart of the Blue Mountains’ creative community. Perched on the escarpment with sweeping views of the Jamison Valley, this iconic town is more than a tourist destination — it’s a home and haven for artists, makers, and entrepreneurs shaping culture from the mountains outward.

The MTNS MADE network in Katoomba includes award-winning filmmakers, graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, musicians, and digital creatives. From heritage buildings repurposed as studios to co-working spaces buzzing with fresh ideas, Katoomba blends natural inspiration with creative energy. Local talent spans branding and UX design, photography, fashion, fine art, publishing, animation, and event production — with many working nationally and internationally from their mountain base.

The town is known for its festivals and cultural events, including Winter Magic and the Blue Mountains Music Festival, which bring together creativity and community in unforgettable ways. Katoomba also offers a range of arts venues and galleries — such as the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre — that regularly showcase local and touring work.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF NGURRA

The City of the Blue Mountains is located within the Ngurra (Country) of the Dharug and Gundungurra peoples. MTNS MADE recognises that Dharug and Gundungurra Traditional Owners have a continuous and deep connection to their Country and that this is of great cultural significance to Aboriginal people, both locally and in the region. For Dharug and Gundungurra People, Ngurra takes in everything within the physical, cultural and spiritual landscape – landforms, waters, air, trees, rocks, plants, animals, foods, medicines, minerals, stories and special places. It includes cultural practice, kinship, knowledge, songs, stories and art, as well as spiritual beings, and people: past, present and future. Blue Mountains City Council pays respect to Elders past and present while recognising the strength, capacity and resilience of past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Blue Mountains region.
