Aprili Designs is the jewellery practice of artist and designer April Erzetich. A one-woman jewellery studio handcrafting talismans inspired by ancient symbolism, sacred geometry, ritual and the magic of adornment. Based in Katoomba, Blue Mountains, April creates each piece by hand, bringing together her experience as a sculptor, dancer and jeweller with her love of traditional metalwork and the enduring human connection to adornment. In 2005, she completed a Bachelor of Fine Art (Hons) at the University of Newcastle, majoring in sculpture, metalwork and bronze casting. After moving to the Blue Mountains, she became part of modern fusion belly dance troupe Caravan Dance Company, travelling, teaching and performing internationally. Through dance and travel, she developed a deeper appreciation for jewellery across different cultures, particularly its role in identity, cultural heritage, adornment and ritual, and its use as talisman and amulet. A significant part of April’s jewellery practice was shaped by her time studying Classical Odissi dance in Rajasthan in 2009 and 2010, where she became the private student of a Soni goldsmith from a generations-old family lineage. Learning traditional Indian metalworking techniques, including impression die work, became a defining influence on her practice, which she continues to reinterpret through her contemporary approach to jewellery design. Aprili Designs began with jewellery crafted for dancers and has evolved into a collection of wearable talismans and amulets for the everyday. Drawing on imagery experienced through meditation and April’s creative practice, each piece is created with intention, designed to be both beautiful and meaningful. Inspired by themes of protection, transformation, the Divine Feminine and personal symbolism, her work explores the relationship between adornment and the energetic self.
