Located in the heart of the mid-mountains, Lawson is emerging as one of the region’s most exciting places to live, work and create. With an evolving town centre, vibrant community culture and easy train access, it’s attracting a new wave of creatives who value connection, collaboration and space to grow.

Lawson is home to a diverse mix of MTNS MADE members, from graphic designers and illustrators, to textile artists, ceramicists, filmmakers and musicians. Several run studios, workshops and creative businesses that serve both local and national audiences.

The town has a strong sense of community and an inclusive, DIY spirit. Local events, markets and maker spaces give artists the chance to share work, collaborate, and connect with others. Lawson’s writers and editors also contribute to a growing scene of independent publishing and storytelling rooted in place.

With more young families and creative professionals moving to the area, Lawson is gaining momentum as a central hub in the MTNS MADE ecosystem. It’s a place where new ideas meet community support — and where emerging artists find room to build their practice.

Whether you’re looking for a collaborator, a commission, or a skilled creative, Lawson offers the perfect blend of talent, accessibility and community energy.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF NGURRA

The City of the Blue Mountains is located within the Ngurra (Country) of the Dharug and Gundungurra peoples. MTNS MADE recognises that Dharug and Gundungurra Traditional Owners have a continuous and deep connection to their Country and that this is of great cultural significance to Aboriginal people, both locally and in the region. For Dharug and Gundungurra People, Ngurra takes in everything within the physical, cultural and spiritual landscape – landforms, waters, air, trees, rocks, plants, animals, foods, medicines, minerals, stories and special places. It includes cultural practice, kinship, knowledge, songs, stories and art, as well as spiritual beings, and people: past, present and future. Blue Mountains City Council pays respect to Elders past and present while recognising the strength, capacity and resilience of past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Blue Mountains region.
