LOOKOUT encapsulates my exploration and rediscovery of the natural landscape of the Blue Mountains from the time of the pandemic lockdowns.
During this period, I was able to explore my own backyard.
I’m very fortunate that it is a World Heritage Site of vast valleys and gorges, sandstone escarpments lined with the blue haze of the eucalyptus.
I documented by sketching and photographing the scenery around me. This practice continued on after the pandemic, reconnecting me with the landscape I chose as my home.
I predominantly paint with watercolour and fine pen but for this adventure I wanted to experiment with a broad range of mediums. There are so many breathtaking lookouts here in the Blue Mountains and I have chosen some based on my personal favourites, for their interesting architectural aspect and others for what might suit that style and medium.
For me, I hope you to join me in discovering or reconnecting with your own backyard, as well as inspiring you to explore a new art medium for yourself.
