'Forms of Flight'

project description

‘Forms of Flight’ presents a series of paintings by Katya Petetskaya on aluminium and canvas, shaped by the artist’s performance practice, where gesture and material act as co-creators. The forms that emerge invite the viewer into a world of shifting perspectives - where energy and matter are always in motion. They are invitations to witness transformation in action. The works trace the ephemeral, capturing the moment just before form takes flight. Petetskaya does not seek to define the unknown, but rather to capture its essence through embodied insight - allowing paint, surface, and movement to shape each work. The density of pigment, the tension between solid masses and negative space, and the layered marks create a sense of fluidity, depth, and atmospheric resonance. Like echoes of flight, the works exist in a state of perpetual emergence, embodying the tension between grounded presence and infinite possibility.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF NGURRA

The City of the Blue Mountains is located within the Ngurra (Country) of the Dharug and Gundungurra peoples. MTNS MADE recognises that Dharug and Gundungurra Traditional Owners have a continuous and deep connection to their Country and that this is of great cultural significance to Aboriginal people, both locally and in the region. For Dharug and Gundungurra People, Ngurra takes in everything within the physical, cultural and spiritual landscape – landforms, waters, air, trees, rocks, plants, animals, foods, medicines, minerals, stories and special places. It includes cultural practice, kinship, knowledge, songs, stories and art, as well as spiritual beings, and people: past, present and future. Blue Mountains City Council pays respect to Elders past and present while recognising the strength, capacity and resilience of past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Blue Mountains region.
