Traditional flamenco dance classes and performance
Veronica is one of the very few flamenco dancers in this country who has an extensive history as a professional flamenco dancer in Spain, having worked alongside many of the most famous dancers, singers and musicians – the likes of the famous Camarón de la Isla,
La Tati, Manolete Maya, José Mercé, Paco Cepero and a host of internationally famous artists.
Outside of Spain, she toured Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Holland with La Singla y sus Gitanos for several seasons and performed in tablaos in Japan many times. Over the years she has given workshops in Japan, New Zealand, Perth, Adelaide and Sydney.
In Australia Veronica was the flamenco dancer in Graham Murphy’s Nutcracker in 2000. She created “exotic choreography” for the stage version of Strictly Ballroom for Baz Luhrmann. With her group The Flamenco Crew she developed “Rajasthan”, a highly successful Indian/Flamenco fusion group appearing several times at the Sydney Opera House and “Flamenco Dreaming” (Flamenco/Aboriginal fusion performance).
Veronica also choreographed Carmen and La Traviata for Opera Australia on several occasions.
Veronica is now living in Katoomba and has established a flamenco dance academy in Katoomba. Her classes include live flamenco guitar accompaniment. The study of Flamenco is much more than just the dance and in 2019 Veronica will include “palmas” (flamenco hand clapping) as part of the classes. This will be available for those don’t want to dance but are interested in studying “palmas” and being part of the ensemble as a percussion instrument.
Her performance group “FlamencoVero” proudly consists of professional musicians and have appeared at The Alexandra Hotel in Leura for the past two years and funds raised have been donated to the Westmead Childrens’ Hospital.
